Site Notices

Sunday 12 February, 2006

I’ve started experimenting with a new ad provider, adbrite. Hopefully some people will decide to advertise on DP through them. Also, using different providers for different blocks of ads improves the variety of ads available on any given page.

Trouble.net.au has physically moved now and we’re just waiting for all the DNS goop to notice. In theory the computer left behind at the old location will correctly do forwarding so except for the time spent physically getting that sorted out, the transition should be smooth. I hope so anyway :)

The temperature in Melbourne reached 41.2 degrees C today, and by coincidence there was nobody there to turn the air conditioners on at my web host, trouble.net.au. So with hardware sick from heat exhaustion, Developing Programmers .com has been inaccessible for much of the last 12 hours, sorry about that. I’m assured that it’s all sorted out now and was just a freak coincidence so it’s unlikely to happen again.

I noticed there’s a problem with the Opinion Poll plugin; adding custom answers doesn’t seem to be working correctly. I’ll experiment with it and see if I can work out what the problem is. Hopefully I won’t have to rewrite the plugin; I’ve had to do that with a few WordPress plugins so far…

Hrm I asked a friend who is allergic to caffeine to vote (since he’d have to add an option) and it worked fine for him. Perhaps the problem was Tim voting from the same IP address as me.

Yes; I do vote on my own polls — I have an opinion too! But I only get one vote. And that vote is apparently shared with the household so it’s less than one vote.
